Muscles Producing Movements

Flexion: Biceps femoris, semitendinosus, semimembranosus, gracilis sartorius, popliteus. (Possible assistance by gastrocnemius and plantaris muscles if foot is fixed).
Extension: Quadriceps femoris (possible assistance by tensor fascia lata and gluteus maximums through the iliotibial tract).
Medial Rotation: Popliteus, semimembranosus, semitendinosus, sartorius, gracilis.
Lateral Rotation: (of tibia) biceps femoris.
