The 60 miles of Appalachian Trail from Wesser, NC to Clingmans Dome in the Smokies does not look too formidable on paper, but we found it to be a grueling yet beautiful section of trail. This section of trail climbs over Cheoah Bald and then heads down to Fontana Dam and then back up to Shuckstack Mountain in the Smokies. In the Smokies, the trail follows the ridgeline eventually summiting the highest point on the Appalachian Trail -- Clingmans Dome. Over the following few pages you will find photos from our trip... you can almost feel like you are out there on the trail... well almost -- minus the flies, the smell of sweaty thru-hikers, the sound mice scurrying around the shelter at night...
