The trail along the ridge of the Black Mountains is extremely rugged with very steep, rocky climbs and descents. Due to their high elevation, the Black Mountains are usually enshrouded in fog and are one of the wettest places in the Eastern United States. The wet conditions can make trails in the area very treacherous, so proper hiking shoes are recommended for even short day hikes. |
