The Ten Commandments of Social Ministry [Return to manual]
  1. I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me. Therefore, I am with you always. You shall trust me as you serve on any project .
  1. It takes time and work.
  1. You must have a vision and at least one visionary.
  1. Identify the need.
  1. Partnership with the people you serve. Remember, you are a servant, not a savior.
  1. Plan, plan, plan. ..talk, talk, talk. ..pray, pray, pray.
  1. Play dumb! Ask questions of anyone, and ask them to whom you should speak for more information or help. People want to help!
  1. Make clear goals and objectives, and evaluate them upon conclusion of the project .
  1. Never, but never, be limited by resources in your pocket! Assume that there is money, or paint, or light fixtures, or help out there somewhere. Then follow commandments, #3, #7, and #1 and begin your work.
  1. Remember that only one leper returned to give thanks to the Lord for healing him. Do not EXPECT thanks from those you serve. You serve because You are giving thanks to God for all that he has done for you!
