Lt. Joseph Pierson, Sr., son of Henry Peirson, was born about 1640 in Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, New York. Joseph married (1) Amy Barnes on 17 Nov 1675 in Southampton. Amy was born about 1640.

(From Pierson Millennium) Joseph Pierson, Sr. dealt with Indians for the town March 6, 1657/58, and at age 30, still single, he exchanged 20 acres of land in Southampton on June 19, 1670. In 1681, Joseph had cattle earmarks registered at Southampton, the cattle probably being inherited from his father who died the year before with about 53 head of cattle on hand. In 1682, Joseph was selected as one of Southampton's overseers including responsibility for preparing the Town Estimate in 1683 along with John Foster, John Jagarr, and John Howell, Jr. In 1686, Joseph was a townsman (Assessor, etc.) for Southampton. He received land grants from the town of Southampton in 1686 at Accobogue Meadows, and 1687 at the meadow at the beach and pines. In 1687 Joseph owned one of 14 whaling companies of 12 men each in the greater Southampton area who reported whale oil in their possession. Joseph held SOuthampton town offeces: in 1688 as Commissioner , Townsman, & Trustee; in 1692 as Viewer and Surveyor of Highways; in 1693 as Surveyor; in 1694 as Surveyor of Highways and Fences; and in 1695 as Trustee and the Town Rate. In the town records from 1694 to 1698 he was called "Ensign" and was likely in the local colonial militia. After 1698 he was named as Lieutenant in records pertaining to the marriage and death of his daughter, Mary.
Amy died on 3 October 1692 in Southampton, Suffolk Co., Long Island, NY. Joseph married (2) Joana in Southampton. Joanna was born about 1654 and died before 1698. Joseph died after his daughter, Mary (23 Feb 1706/07) and before 1720 in Southampton.
