Joseph Pierson III

Joseph Pierson III, son of Joseph Pierson, Jr., was born on 3 Feb 1707/08 in Southampton. In 1739 he inherited part of his father's estate in Southampton, then in 1741 he bought land located about 2 miles west of Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey. Joseph married Patience Pierson, daughter of Joseph and Hepzibah (Camp) Pierson, about 1741 in Morris County. She was born in 1724 in Orange, Essex County, New Jersey.

Joseph and Patience had the following children:

  1. Mary Pierson was born about 1741/44 in Morristown. She was baptised on 30 December 1754 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown.

  2. Joseph Pierson IV was born in 1745 in Morristown. He was baptised on 30 December 1754 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown. He served in the Revolutionary War as a Private in Capt. Austin Bayley's Company, Morristown, N.J., and in the StateTroops (S-720) as Sargeant. He died in 1815 in NJ.

  3. David Pierson was born about 1750 in Morris Co., NJ. He was baptised on 30 December 1754 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown.

  4. Jonathan Pierson was born about 1754 in Morris Co., NJ. He was baptised on 30 December 1754 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown. He died on 8 September 1783 in Morristown. He was buried in 1783 at the 1st Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Morristown. Jonathan married Sarah Ferver on 28 December 1774 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown.

  5. Abraham Pierson was born in 1758 in Morris Co., NJ. He was baptised on 6 August 1758 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown. He died on 15 April 1776. He was buried at the 1st Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Morristown.

  6. Rachel Pierson was born in 1760 in Morris Co., NJ. She was baptised on 24 August 1760 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown.

  7. Abigail Pierson was born in 1762 in Morris Co., NJ. She was baptised on 1 August 1762 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown.

  8. Hepzibah Pierson was born in 1765 in Morris Co., NJ. She was baptised on 30 June 1765 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown. She died on 28 September 1772 in Morris Co., NJ. She was buried at the 1st Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Morristown.

  9. Bethuel Pierson was born on 2 September 1770 in Morris Co., NJ. He was baptised on 7 October 1770 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Morristown. He married Rachel Day and they lived in Morristown.

In 1746 Joseph Pirson (sic) registered cattle ear marks at Morris Twp., Morris Co., NJ. In October 1768 Joseph Pierson was listed as a Ratable in Morris Twp. and described as having land 10£, 200 acres, 13 horses & cattle, and 23 sheep. Joseph died on 9 May 1785 and was buried in Morristown. Patience died about 1791 in Morristown.
