Mark and Maria Geesey's Family Home Page

News from Mt. Pleasant, SC, February 2008

OK, so it's been far too long since I've updated this page. I don't know whether it's because I've been too busy or because we really haven't done a lot since my last update in May. You'll have to decide for yourself.

Cosette entered another riding competition at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center in May. Although she didn't win any ribbons this time, she is still very enthusiastic about her riding. We think it will be something that whe will continue doing for years to come. As of last summer we have changed to a different stables for her lessons and her skills are improving at an even more unbelievable rate.

In June we took another trip to Virginia where we met Maria's parents for a weekend in the Williamsburg area. We toured Busch Gardens park one day and Historic Jamestown another. Jamestown was extras special because of the 400th anniversary celebrations of its founding in 1607.

Kyle and Cosette knew all about Pocahontas and the stories of Jamestown even before we visited. We all learned a lot about the cultures and societies of early 17th Century Virginia.

Maria took Kyle and Cosette to Bull's Island one day this summer. They visited 'Boneyard Beach' during their expedition there. They enjoyed the remote beach and the long walk along the island. Their numerous encounters with so many alligators, however, was a little unnerving for them.

We were all invited to a birthday party on the Isle of Palms beach on glorious afternoon in August. It's days like this that really make us truely appreciate the wonderful area where we live. Walley Carey, a professional photographer, was there as a guest and took many excellent photos that he shared with us.

In October we enjoyed a trip to our mountain home in North Carolina with the Knepper family: John, Kay, Emily, and Allen. We spent a day on Grandfather Mountain where we took a short hike and walked across the suspension bridge at an elevation of exactly 1 mile. The winds were gusting pretty strong, but at only a fraction of their potential. We had a glorious day enjoying the fall colors even though the temperature was brisk.

Cosette had a horse show at her new riding stables of Tuxbury Farms in early December. She was very nervous before her time to ride because she found out only upon arriving that morning that she was entered in the Walk-Trot-Canter competition that included jumps over cross rails. We had thought that she would be doing only Walk-Trot with no jumping. She hadn't practiced very many jumps before the show. However, much to our delight, not only did she perform magnificently, but she won a first place ribbon.

Messages in Bottles

On November 30, 2004 we dropped 20 wine bottles containing messages into the ocean from Breach Inlet, SC.  Here's a map of where they have been found.
On November 20, 2007 Mark dropped another 20 bottles in at the same location. One bottle was found a few days later on the beach of Sullivan's Island.
