The origins of the family are in the town of Eggerode in the region administered by the city of Münster from the 16th to 18th Centuries. Following the Anabaptist rebellion in 1534 and the subsequent re-capture of Münster by Catholics in 1535, the region became exclusively Catholic; becoming even more so after the signing of the Peace of Westphalia ending the Thirty Years' War in 1648. |

2. Johannes Eckroth (1709-1757)Johannes Eckroth was born about 1709 in Eggerode, Münster. Roman Catholic. Johannes "Ickroth" arrived in Philadelphia on the 5th of September, 1743, on the Snow Charlotta, John Mason, Master, from Rotterdam, last from Cowes, and took the oath of allegiance to the government at the courthouse in Philadelphia. He married Anna Margaret Bennick and they settled in Lynn Township, Bucks County (now Lehigh County), at the foothills of the Blue Mountain. They had 8 children. Johannes was killed in an Indian attack while working his fields in May 1757. |

He married Susanna Steissen on 26 Feb 1748/1749 in Trinity Lutheran Ch., Lancaster Co., PA. He died before 24 Feb 1806 in Mt. Joy Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. |

She was buried in 1815 in Conewago Cemetery, Edge Grove, Adams County, PA. |
