News from Mt. Pleasant, SC, August 2005

Our Summer vacation took us to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming for a week during July. We stayed just outside the northern entrance to the park in Gardiner, Montana. The crisp, cool mornings and the lack of humidity were a welcome break from the summer back home.

We had 6 wonderful days to explore the park. On our first day alone we explored the hydrothermal fields at Mammoth Hot Springs (right) and encountered a herd of over 300 bison in the Lamar Valley (below).

Yellowstone Falls and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (right) were spectacular.

Mark's sister, Brenda, joined us after a couple of days and we went on a 2-hour white water rafting trip down the Yellowstone River.

Needless to say, we all got pretty soaked. We even jumped out of the raft and went through some rapids with only our lifevests on (Kyle and Cosette included). But it was a hot afternoon and it all felt great.

During our vacation Maria had her birthday (we'll keep her age a
secret) and we all celebrated together. Mark's brother, David, and
his family, Beth, Solveig, Maren, and Gabriel had also joined us
by that time.

Brenda taught Kyle and Cosette how to fish, but, unfortunately, we didn't catch anything.

No trip to Yellowstone would be complete without a photo of Old Faithful or a sunset.
