I am currently an assistant professor of Biostatistics in the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Medical University of South Carolina. This division is one of the many divisions within the Department of Medicine at MUSC. I obtained my M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in statistics both from The University of Georgia in the years 2003 and 2006, respectively under the guidance of Prof. Somnath Datta.
Prior to that, I obtained my B.S. and M.Sc degress in statistics both
from the University of Calcutta, India. During the summer of 2004 and
2005, I was a visiting research scientist at the Dept. of Mathematics, Wake Forest University.
Since summer of 2006, I am working at the Medical University of South
Carolina as an assistant professor. I am also affiliated to the Center for Oral Health Research (COHR) at MUSC as a bio-statistician.
My
main research interest lies in the area of Bayesian biostatistics,
nonparametric survival analysis, clustered and longitudinal data
analysis and also their applications to problems of dental epidemiology. I am currently styudying the periodontal health status and progression of the Gullah speaking African American population residing in the coastal South Carolina (SC) sea-islands through a NIH/NCRR funded project with the SC COBRE (Center of Biomedical Research Excellence). I am also involved in studying rates of sexual recidivism amongjuveniles and adoloscents in South Carolina through a study funded by the CDC and NIJ.
My recent interests also include medical cost effectiveness analysis in
US hospitals and application of novel statistical methods to data on
substance abuse.
I am curently serving as the President of the South Carolina chapter of the ASA and also as a member of the Regional Advisory Board (RAB) of the ENAR.
