Introduction

The purpose of this project was to develop a database of video-clips of anatomical structures to complement existing sets of surface anatomy lectures and laboratories already in use at MUSC. The 262 video-clips created are now regrouped on a CD that can be used in complement to existing notes and digital pictures placed on a web site managed using the Open Source Software Manhattan Virtual Classroom. This model (CD-Web hybrid) allows our students to access our MUSC Surface Anatomy website over a phone line and a modem but at the same time to view high quality video-clips using our CD. We published the HTML codes for this CD-Web hybrid model in the New Anatomist in April 2000 (T. Bacro, B. Gilbertson and J. Coultas. Web-delivery of anatomy video clips using a CD-ROM. New Anatomist. Vol 261: 78-82, 2000).

Samples streaming from the MUSC server (not requiring the CD) can be viewed without a password at http://people.musc.edu/~bacrotr/surface-anatomy/ Note that the viewers will need a high-speed Internet connection, the Netscape browser and Realplayer plug-in installed on their machines. Faculty members at all other institutions who wish to access these videos for teaching purposes are invited to e-mail the project director, Dr. Thierry Bacro to enter a financial agreement with MUSC.
